Founded in 1996 under the original name Children's Circle Childcare Center, the Early Learning Society is a community based not-for-profit charity, dedicated to providing quality Early Learning and Childcare services to the families of Kamloops. Originally established to serve the needs of Interior Heath Authority employees, we continue to fulfill that mandate with a minimum 50% of our spaces filled with the children of IHA employees, enabling critical community doctors, nurses and health support staff to return to work. The remaining spaces are available to the community at large.
Originally located adjacent to Royal Inland Hospital, our primary location was closed in 2020 due to the expansion of the hospital and we transitioned to a temporary commercial lease in the downtown core. Throughout this time, we continued to operate our second location, St Paul's Early Learning Centre.
In 2021, to unify and expand services, we partnered with Interior Health to build a brand new 12-classroom facility in downtown Kamloops.
In January 2022, we successfully transitioned all children and staff into our new facility and closed our previous two locations on Seymour St. and St. Paul's St Early Learning Centre.
The purpose of our program is to provide inclusive, quality early learning and childcare services in a healthy and supportive atmosphere, by implementing a child-led, age-appropriate program for children that will promote their intellectual, physical, emotional, and social growth.
Our services also enable parents to participate in the workforce; strengthening our local economy and supporting much needed healthcare professionals.
